TECHWELL: Where Technology Shapes Access is the theme of TypeWell’s 2016 Conference in Reno, Nevada.
The 2016 Conference Committee is seeking proposals that reflect the best thinking and most innovative practices in the field, informed by consumer-driven research and practice, and mindful of diversity and inclusion. We welcome proposals from anyone with knowledge and expertise related to TypeWell transcribing, coordinating or mentoring, as well as those with broader experience related to technology and access for individuals who are D/deaf or hard-of-hearing. We also welcome proposals from consumers and educators who have utilized TypeWell services and are interested in participating in the discussion on technology and access.
The conference will bring together over 100 participants — including TypeWell speech-to-text transcribers, disability service coordinators, and agency representatives — from institutions and organizations across the United States and Canada, and will feature presentations, hands-on workshops, plenary sessions, social events, and unlimited networking opportunities.

Proposals with presenters from a single institution or multiple institutions will be considered equally.
A good session covers one topic in depth, rather than giving an overview of many topics.
Workshops feature a participant-centered and highly interactive approach and provide substantive training opportunities, practice, and critical discussion.

The sooner you submit your idea, the better! Our goal is to offer a wide range of thought-provoking workshops and presentations, while keeping the schedule balanced to meet the needs and interests of all participants. The Conference Committee may follow up with questions, ideas, or suggestions about your proposal. Even if your proposal is not accepted outright, the Committee may offer you an opportunity to refine your topic or to collaborate with another presenter.
PLEASE NOTE: Agency and business owners may be interested in presenting sessions or workshops. Please consider signing up for one of the “Thought Leader” sponsored sessions. The Conference Committee will also consider session/workshop proposals from an agency or business representative, provided 1) you have at least one co-presenter who does not stand to profit directly from the exposure, and 2) the scope of your topic extends beyond your own products and services.
Proposals and nominations will be accepted through Sunday, January 31, 2016! Notifications will be sent via email in late February 2016.
Each meeting room will have a computer projector with an overhead screen. Please be prepared to connect your own laptop to the computer projector.
Although the hotel is providing complimentary high-speed internet access in the meeting rooms, it may not be reliable in every room. We strongly recommend that you download any presentation content onto your computer in case you are unable to connect to the internet during your presentation. If your presentation may only be shown using an internet connection, please let us know in advance so that we may discuss your connectivity needs.
If your proposal is accepted, you will be notified in late February. You must then complete the following steps to confirm your place in the schedule:
You are strongly encouraged to send your revised presentation outline or slides for review and feedback prior to the conference, by email: email@example.com.
Finally, you are responsible for preparing your presentation including handouts, visual aids, and a well-developed exploration of the topic. It is important to practice your presentation multiple times in order to be sure that it is clear, concise, and fits within the time allocated.
